Udupi, Mar 25: The state government has nominated Udupi municipality, which is in the platinum jubilee year of its inception, for the ‘National Urban Water Management Award’.
This recognition comes for proper handling of first and second Swarna drinking water projects and ensuring proper supply of water in the town. A report about these things was submitted to the department of urban development, Bangalore. The department, after verifying claims of different urban bodies for the award, has recommended the town for the above award. In this connection, a team of experts came from Hyderabad recently to check all aspects of water supply here.
Once all the inspections are over, a short list of recommended municipalities will be published. A municipality, once it finds its name in this list, will have to make a presentation in the presence of experts about water management techniques at New Delhi. Based on the effectiveness of these presentations, one of them will be chosen for the national award.
Municipal commissioner, Gokuldas Nayak, revealed that the recommendation for the award is backed not only by the water supply and management efficiency, but also after considering several other points like water rate, billing, recovery, quality of water, technology used, etc.
