New Delhi, March 23 (IANS) Global processed food giant Nestle's Indian subsidiary Wednesday started operations at its new culinary plant in Nanjangud in Karnataka that was built at an investment of Rs.360 crore.
The plant will create close to 630 jobs and manufacturer the company's iconic brand such as Maggi, a company official said. The plant started its operation in the presence of Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and top Nestle officials.
According to Paul Bulcke, chief executive of Nestle S.A.: "Our business is growing well in India and we are very optimistic about the country's growth opportunities over the coming years."
He said that culinary products such as Maggi has a huge consumer following in India and the investment in the manufacturer plant asserts the company's confidence in continued success of the brand.
"The brand Maggi has very strong equity with consumers. This plant specializes in the manufacture of culinary products and this investment reaffirms our confidence in our brands."
Currently, Nestle India operates seven factories and employs around 6,000 people.
The company recently reported an increase of 21.9 percent in its net sales for the calendar year 2010, which stood at Rs.6,254.7 crore.
