Madikeri, Mar 23: Harish (25) from Tattekere, who worked as a jeep driver, and his friend, Vinod (21), died in an accident that occurred at Bemmatti near Mayamudi in Gonikoppal in the district on Monday March 21 night.

Harish had gone to Gonikoppal to deliver the jeep for servicing there. To bring him back, his friend, Vinod, had gone to Gonikoppal in his motor bike. While the two were coming back home, the motor bike hit a roadside electric pole near Bemmatti. Both were seriously injured. A passer-by named Illyas, who saw the two writhing in pain, made arrangements to carry them to Gonikoppal government hospital. However, Harish breathed his last before he could be attended.

Vinod, who was being treated at Gonikoppal government hospital, was taken to K R Hospital Mysore by the owner of the jeep, as he was in need of advanced treatment. However, he died at the said hospital, without responding to treatments, on Tuesday. Vinod, from Maragod in Madikeri taluk,  was a second PU student of Vijayalaxmi junior college in Balele. He was to appear for economics examination on Tuesday.

A case was registered in this connection at Ponnampet police station.
