Daijiworld Media Network – Puttur (SP)

Puttur, Mar 23: Unidentified thieves, who entered a house in Kallimar on Parkaladka Road here late night on Monday March 21, succeeded in getting access to valuables worth about Rs 8.80 lac including Rs 5,000 in cash. Gold ornaments weighing 55 sovereigns, belonging to the house owner, were among the things stolen by unknown thieves.

The rented house of Sridhar Rai, lecturer in Kabaka government PU College, was chosen by the thieves for this act. Rai has been deputed to Mysore for PU examination-related work. His wife, Shylaja, who was afraid of sleeping in the house alone, had locked the house and slept in the neighbouring house. The fact that no one resides in the house located in the first floor of Rai’s home, made it easier for the thieves to go ahead with their plans.

The policemen said that the thieves, who broke open the lock of the front door, easily got the keys of the cupboard and hence, had no difficulty in collecting their booty. The sniffer dog, which was pressed into operation, could not go beyond the passengers shelter located on M T Road. Finger print experts too visited the spot.

Dakshina Kannada district superintendent of police (SP), Dr Subrhamanyeshwar Rao, and additional SP, K S Prabhakar, rushed to the spot and guided the operations. A case was registered in the local police station, and two teams were formed to investigate this incident. Circle inspector of rural police station, B K Manjaiah, has taken up investigation under the guidance of local assistant SP, Dr Rohini Katoch.
