Udupi: House in Sannakkibettu Goes Up in Flames

Udupi, Mar 21: In a fire mishap that occurred at Sannakkibettu near Parkala in the taluk on Sunday March 20 evening, a house was reduced into ashes. While loss of lives was averted, loss of things worth about Rs 4.5 lac has been estimated.

A house owned by Sharada Shetty was gutted in the tragedy. At the time of the accident, Sharada was alone at her house, and her children were away at work place. The neighbours, who saw flames leaping out of the roof of her house, entered the house and saved Sharada from fire. The fire brigade, which was alerted, came on the scene, and worked to douse the flames.

The roof, clothes, furniture, household utensils, items in the kitchen, electrical equipments, documents etc, were destroyed in the accident. Gold and silver ornaments apart from valuables worth about Rs 2.5 lac were also consumed by the raging flames, it is gathered.
