Puttur: Grieving Wife Follows Husband in Death

Puttur, Mar 19: A wife, who was grief-stricken after the recent death of her husband, ended her life by jumping into a tank. The incident occurred at Koltige village in the taluk on Thursday March 17.

Madhava Naik (59), former president of Koltige gram panchayat, had slipped from the tree while harvesting black pepper in his plantation on March 12. He was seriously injured and got admitted into a hospital in Mangalore. He breathed his last at the hospital on March 16.

Naik’s wife, Devaki (48), who could not bear the sudden loss of her husband, was terribly upset. On Thursday, without the knowledge of anyone, she jumped into a tank by the side of her home, and ended her life.

She is survived by a daughter and three sons.
