Mangalore: Policemen Succeed in Arresting Notorious Thief

Mangalore, Mar 16: A thief, who was able to give the policemen a slip since the last several years, was caught on Tuesday March 15.

The arrested man has been identified as Abdul Hamid alias Pappi (29), son of P G Mohammed from Mulky. The arrest was made on the basis of a complaint filed by Jayaram Acharya from Pakshikere, that a pump set fitted inside his well, had been stolen on Sunday last. The policemen, who observed the movements of Abdul Hamid closely for some time, arrested him. The pump he had sold to a person in Suratkal, was also seized.

The policemen said that Abdul was involved with a number of thefts including television sets, chairs, copper cauldrons etc from the region since 2005, and had succeeded in evading arrest. The arrest was made under the guidance of Mulky circle inspector, Shivaprakash nayak, by station house officer, Muniswamy Neelakantan, and other personnel.

On production in a court, the accused was remanded to 15 days judicial custody.
