Mangaluru: St Aloysius College (Autonomous) to organize ‘Metanoia’

Mangaluru, Jun 23: St Aloysius College (Autonomous), department of Social Work will be organising ‘Metanoia’, a national-level seminar on ‘Across the CIS Tide: Trans-Community and Role of Social Work’, on June 24, at Eric Mathias Hall, St Aloysius College (Autonomous) at 9.30 am.

Father Muller Medical College, Head of Department of Psychiatry and renowned Psychiatrist Dr Supriya Hegde Aroor will be the chief guest of the event. St Aloysius College (Autonomous) principal Dr Praveen Martis SJ will preside.

Sessions covering an array of topics pertaining to the transgender community and the sexual minority will be covered during the day. Arundhathi Foundation president and Karnataka Mangalamukhi Foundation general secretary Arundhathi Heggade will speak on ‘Transphobia: Issues faced and the rights of trans community’. This will be followed by a talk by mPower Foundation Mumbai Senior Clinical Psychologist HemangiMhaprolkar on ‘Sexual Minorities and Role of Social Work’. Post lunch, Karnataka Mangalamukhi Foundation, Udupi President, theatre actor and RJ Kajal will speak on ‘Life perspective of a Trans-individual’.

The valedictory event will be held on the same at 4 pm. Controller of Examinations, registrar, St Aloysius College (Autonomous) -Dr Alwyn D’Sa and Maffei (IT) Block Director St Aloysius College (Autonomous) - Dr Loveena Lobo will be the chief guests, while Admin Block Director St Aloysius College (Autonomous) - Dr Nobert Lobo will preside.

Cultural events and ‘Visions of Colour’ (Poster Making Competition) will be held as part of the programme, under the banner ‘Across the CIS Tide’ between 3pm to 4 pm. The theme will be ‘Contributions of Transgender Community’.

Details are as follows:
Rules and Regulation:
1. Each team can have a maximum of 3 and minimum of 2 members, and submit only one poster.
2. The poster must be made on the A3 size sheet with margins drawn with black pen/ marker.
3. Acceptable tools for drawing/ painting include pencil. Crayon, watercolour, oil paint etc. Photographs, wires, other 3D objects, print-outs won’t be acceptable. It should be original and hand-made.
4. Name and stream of the participants, school/ college name must be clearly mentioned on the right-hand bottom of the sheet.
5. The theme should be the main focus of the poster.
6. Each team has to present about their poster for one minute in English/ Kannada/ Hindi.

About Metanoia
Metanoia and its theme are based on the trans-community which seeks to understand the terminologies related to the trans-community,the coming out process, transitioning experiences and life perspective of trans-individuals.It also seeks to understand the role of social workers with the trans-community and how social workers engage and work among the trans-community.

The seminar will consist of two sessions:The intellectual sessions which includes question and answer session, and cultural programmes and competition.
