Mysuru, Jun 23: A five-day faculty development program on ‘Promoting research among Academicians’ was inaugurated at St Philomena’s College(Autonomous), Mysuru by prof N R Parasuraman, Director Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute for Management and Development (SDMIMD), Mysuru on June 22.
The program was organized jointly bythe Research Committee and Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the College. The FDP is designed to promote research among the teaching faculty of the College by imparting knowledge of research skills, culture, research methodology and application of scientific tools.
Prof N R Parasuraman, while delivering the keynote address after inauguration of FDP, opined that researches should be conducted for noble purpose of decision making and not for research sake. He reiterated the need of research as foundation for a successful academic endeavor.
Referring to the use of statistics in research, Prof N R Parasuraman stated that it is sometimes a boon or a bane. According to him, it is high time to impart good research papers in teaching to enhance students’ understanding.
Moreover, literature should be efficiently reviewed to address the gaps, he said.
The program intends its participants to conduct quality research, said Dr Ravi J D Saldanha, principal, St Philomena’s Colleg Rev Dr Bernard Prakash Barnis, Rector, St. Philomena’s Institutions, Dr. Alphonsus D’Souza, Research Committee Coordinator, Prof Othbert Pinto, Director PG Center, Ronald Prakash Cutinha, IQAC Coordinator were present during the inaugural function.
More than 140 faculties, both from UG and PG departments are participating in this five day Faculty Development Program (FDP). Top researchers and guides are handling the sessions as resource persons for Social Science and Science faculty separately.
