Bantwal, Mar 16: A woman’s jewellery which was kept in her vanity bag while travelling in a bus in Vittal, near here, on Tuesday March 15, was stolen.

Twenty-eight-year-old Mohini, a resident of Tharidala in Manela village, near here, is employed in a private company at Baikampady in Mangalore and was relieved of her jewellery while travelling in a private bus from Vittal to Manela on Tuesday.

The bus was packed and she gave her seat to a woman with a child.  Meanwhile, a co-passenger noticed the ATM card which had fallen from Mohini’s bag.  Upon a close look at her bag, Mohini found her jewellery – a necklace, a ring, few bangles and earrings missing.  She promptly informed the bus employees who called the police.  The policemen, led by Vittal sub-inspector Rakshit subjected all passengers to a physical search.  The jewellery was not found despite this.

The jewellery was valued at nearly Rs 30,000. The police are investigating whether she was followed from Mangalore or a pick-pocket boarded the bus at Vittal who then cut open her vanity bag and decamped with her jewellery.
