Kundapur, Mar 15: On the night of Tuesday March 14, thieves entered K P Kamath and Company, wholesale dealers, located opposite Lord Venkataramana Temple on main road here, and decamped with 30 boxes of cigarettes worth about Rs 20 lac.

The thieves broke open the lock of the shop to gain entry into it. The owners have filed a complaint about the theft, with the policemen. It is guessed that the theft occurred after 1.30 pm, and that the thieves would have used some vehicle to transport the heavy boxes.

The people of the town in general are agitated about the increasing incidents of theft in the town and surrounding places, and the inefficacy of the police measure to improve the situation.

In respect of a number of recent thefts at jewellery and other shops, the policemen have not made any progress in finding out the thieves involved with them.
