Mangaluru: Yoga for Life held at Father Muller Charitable Institutions

Mangaluru, Jun 21: The Father Muller Charitable Institutions deemed it only fit to conduct a united Yoga of all the sister concerns of the Institutions. This time over 1000 students participated in a practiced fashion, carpeting the entire Father Muller Indoor Stadium on 21 June 2022 at 3 pm. The whole event echoed with overwhelming response by the students for a united Yoga session called on by the director of FMCI.

The inaugural of the Yoga performance was presided over by Fr Richard Aloysius Coelho, director, FMCI and honoured by the chief guest Dr Rajesh Nair. The management committee members adorned the stage giving vibrancy to the intuitions celebrations.

Dr Rajesh Nair, a well renowned Yoga Guru, with over 13 years of experience was aptly chosen for the day. Academically trained as an engineer and a management consultant, he worked for 10 years thereafter shifted his full attention to Yoga studies. Since 2014 he is associated with the Yoga University (S-VYASA) as part of formal studies in the therapeutic application of Yoga (Post Graduation) and completed his doctoral research work on understanding the mechanism of Yoga in managing diabetes, from a perspective of molecular biology. He is well acquainted with the theory, practice and philosophy of Yoga, currently working as a senior research fellow at S-VYASA University, Bengaluru.

Fr Richard A Coelho in his presidential quoted the first Prime Ministers saying on Yoga, “Yoga includes non-violence, truthfulness, continence, Yoga is an avoidance of malice and hatred”. He underscored that non-violence or ahimsa is something much more than abstention from physical violence but realization of one’s self to be humane to every human. The wellness is of the mind, body and soul being nourished, and Yoga thus helps in bringing in wellness. The present environment of condemnation and putrefied violence needs a balm of Yoga. The practice should transcend differences and unite humankind. With over 25 crore people all over the world performing Yoga today in the 8 th year of its celebration, we need to heed to the health of the physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing in everyone.

The Yoga practice was the culmination of a 10 day workshop at FMCI guided by Dr Rajesh Nair. The leadership of the NSS units of the Father Muller Medical College, Allied Health College, Homeopathic College and Nursing School and College, and the Father Muller College was commendable. Dr Shailaja Katti (Associate Professor Biochemistry) NSS Coordinator FMMC and organizer was also the Master of Ceremony for the event, accompanied by Abin, NSS cordinator for College of Nursing.

FMCI has been conducting Yoga Day celebrations form 2015 and garnering enthusiast from faculty and students alike. Even during the pandemic the Online Yoga session gathered Mullerians for better Holistic Health through Yoga. Fr Ajith B Menezes, sought to it that all the preparations was well organized.
