Mangalore, Mar 12: The prize distribution ceremony of ACE Surgical Cup (cricket tournament for professional colleges) was held at Nehru Maidan Cricket Pavilion on Saturday March 12.
The tournament for professional colleges from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts began on Wednesday February 2. A total of 13 teams participated in this tournament which was organized by Dakshina Kannada Cricket Association in collaboration with ACE Surgical, Mangalore.
In the final match between A J Institute of Medical Science and Kshema Mangalore, A J won the toss and elected to field first. Kshema scored 79 runs completing the allotted overs losing all 10 wickets. Vaibhav contributed 28 runs. Thushar with 4 runs could gain 3 wickets while Sanjeev giving 11 runs gained 3 wickets.
A J brought the score up to 81 for the loss of one wicket in 10.3 overs.
Vinayak scored 40 and stayed not out. Mollik scored 27. Vivek of Kshema took 1 wicket giving away 15 runs. With this, A J won by 9 wickets. The ‘man of the match’ award went to Thushar Jyothi of A J. Vinayak A.Kumar ( A J) was awarded ‘man of the series’.
At the prize giving ceremony Ajith Alva, and J D Shetty, proprietor, ACE Surgical, were the chief guests. Dr Srikanth Rai, president, DKCA, Arun Kumar Shetty, secretary, DKCA, Nithin Shetty, treasurer, Venugopal Kaikamba, secretary of the tournament, Samel Jayaraj Muthu, Harish Gowda, and Balakrishna Pai were present.
Speaking on the sidelines of prize distribution ceremony, Nithin Shetty said that the tournament had succeeded in promoting the game of cricket as it was an exclusive tournament for professional players of various institutions. He also said that the DKCA, which gives 45 days of training to around 600 students, has performed well in serving the purpose by improving its financial strength. He thanked all for making the tournament a grand success.
