Udupi, Mar 11: “Ensuring healthy competition, democratic model of economic system, and regulating the practice of fixing unethical prices, are the main aims of Competition Commission of India (CCI),” explained CCI chairman, Dhanendra Kumar.
He was speaking at a press conference at Manipal on Thrusday March 10 after inaugurating the two-day international conference on ‘Strategic Accounting for Control and Governance’ at Hotel Valley View hall at Manipal. The conference has been organized by T A Pai Management Institute.
Speaking further, Kumar informed that the commission has settled 50 of the 153 cases referred to it, prominent among them being unusual price hike of onions and air fare. “Complaints received from everyone including individuals, and wherever public interest is involved, the commission registers complaints suo motu and gets them investigated through the director general,” he explained.
He opined that in the global scenario, it becomes difficult for companies to maintain accounting standards, and said that the ministry of corporate affairs has taken some initiatives towards this end. As Raghavan Committee said that it is necessary to regulate the market, the parliament passed the Competition Act 2010, he narrated. Kumar also stressed the importance of transparency, maintenance of ethical values, and commitment to competitive spirit.
