Beltangady, Mar 10: Chairman of Karnataka State Human Rioghts Commission (SHRC), Justice S R Nayak, said that a notice has been served on Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner, seeking a detailed report on the recent eviction of tribal families, who had set up their homes in Naidauri in Sulkeri village in the taluk. He informed that the notice was issued, on the basis of media reports and written complaint.

Justice Nayak conducted interaction with the taluk level officials at the Travellers Bungalow here on Wednesday March 9. He felt that eviction of people and driving them to streets without arranging for alternative sites is tantamount to violation of human rights. “An inquiry into the incident will be held on March 24,” he revealed.

At the sitting, people of Kolody Malekudiya Colony complained that a person named Raghava Hebbar had encroached upon 8,823.62 acres of land in that village unauthorizedly, and that he has been suppressing the tribals living in the village.  Justice Nayak advised officials and policemen to respond to the trials and tribulations of the common people with a kind heart, and to understand that they are expected to work as servants of the people.

Pejavar Mutt Swamiji, Sri Vishweshateertha, who visited Naidaguri on Wednesday, promised to bring pressure on the government to grant government sites to six displaced families. He also assured the poor families to cover them under the welfare schemes being run by his Mutt.
