Udupi: DC Urges Women to Support Under-privileged for Meaningful Women’s Day

Udupi, Mar 8: Women’s Day celebrations get its significance, if a woman responds to another woman in difficulty without seeking the help of men, said deputy commissioner P Hemalata.

DC Hemalata was speaking after inaugurating World Women’s Day celebrations held at Rajangan, Sri Krishna mutt in the aegis of Paryaya Shiroor Mutt, district women and child welfare department, district women federations and Malpe Lioness Club., here on Tuesday March 8.

Meanwhile, DC Hemalata advised that although Women’s Day Celebrations are held annually since a century, there has been no much improvement in the life of women in the country, hence the need to introspect on the past and decide the future course of action, she urged.

"Despite women making her mark in every sphere, she needs to strengthen her confidence. The women’s organizations have to lay more significance to women issues;’" she said. Women have to oppose the atrocities within the family with the support of women’s organization, added Hemalata.

Entrepreneur Pramod Madhwaraj said that Stree Shakti self-help-groups have empowered rural women to be self-reliant. He urged the women to support the women in distress by women’s organizations.

The district women federation president Sarala Kanchan presided.

Mugil Tele Nagaa, Tulu play by playwright Badagubettu Co-operative Society general manager Indrali Jayakar Shetty and Sheela Shetty was released on the same occasion.

ZP vice-president Jyothi S Shetty, women and child welfare department officer Sumana, taluk Federation president Jayashree Krishnaraj, Lioness Club president Shobha Kott were also present.

Women Federation president Sheela Shetty proposed vote of thanks. Yashoda Shetty compered the programme.
