Beltangady, Mar 8: Naidaguri, Sulkeri in the taluk, had hogged limelight recently, after the revenue officials evicted six Malekudiya families, who had come out of the Kudremukh National Park based on the promise of former Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner, Ponnuraj, and had settled in Naidaguri. A number of people had pointed out that large tracts of government land had been occupied by a several powerful locals since long, and that no action had been taken against them. In the recent past, even the present deputy commissioner, Subodh Yadav, had criticized the tahsildar for this partisan action.
Now, the tahsildar, M K Pramila, has served notices on 43 persons, seeking to vacate 163 acres of encroached government land in Naidaguri. Prominent among them are Veerasimha (11 acres), Pramod Jain (8.8 acres), C J Mathew (18.6 acres), Devakiamma (4.25 acres), and Prakash Kini (4.35 acres). The other people are accused of occupying government land measuring between two and four acres.
17 others, who have encroached government land elsewhere in the district have also been identified. Some among them are Kalasa Tea Farm in Malavantige (31 acres), Abdulla Beary in Tekkar (16.6 acres), Ratnakar Rao, Krishna Rao and Raghuram Rao in Uruvalu (18 acres), Kunjira Poojary (12.5 acres), and Mohammed Kunhi (10 acres) in Puttila. There are a few more who have occupied ten acres of government land.
The taluk office personnel are now busy with the task of identifying other encroachments elsewhere in the taluk, and issuing notice of vacation to the occupants.
