Mangaluru: Manel Srinivas Nayak Institute of Management observes World Environment Day

Mangaluru, Jun 9: Manel Srinivas Nayak Institute of Management (MSNIM) in association with the Income Tax Department, Government of India, observed World Environment Day on account of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav on Wednesday, June 8 at the institute campus at Bondel, Mangaluru. The event included a tree planting ceremony in the morning, followed later by a stage programme.

The Income Tax Department contributed 25 saplings. Eight saplings of various fruit trees like mango, jackfruit, gooseberries, kokum and jamun were planted by the chief guest, officers of the Income Tax Department, the institution’s management members and students. The students took the oath - 'Nature is the future, and the future is nature.'

K A Chandrakumar, additional commissioner of Income Tax, Range-1, was the chief guest. Senior officers Manikandan S, joint commissioner of Income Tax, Central Range, Manjunath H S, deputy director, and Jaby Charles Derrick, assistant director, along with 15 other officers and staff members, participated in the tree planting ceremony. Lalitha G. Mallya, Assistant Secretary, and M. N. Pai, Member, Women’s National Education Society, were present. This was followed by an address to the students by Lalitha G. Mallya at the Swarna Hall of the institute.

A green education awardee from the Ministry of Environment, Sultanate of Oman, Lalitha G. Mallya, gave helpful advice to the students to make the ‘Only One Earth’ slogan of the World Environment Day a part and parcel of daily life. ‘Only one Earth’ advocates for transformative environmental change on a global scale. The campaign puts the spotlight on climate action, nature action and pollution action while encouraging everyone, everywhere to live sustainably. “The nature of our future depends on the future of our nature,” she said.

Institute Director Dr. Molly S. Chaudhuri presided over the function. Anushree rendered the invocation. Avishma Alva gave a vote of thanks. Jyothsna welcomed the gathering and anchored the programme. Dr. Shilpi Saha was the faculty coordinator of the event.
