Kundapur, Mar 7: On the night of Sunday March 6, Sukesh Hegde, son of Raviraj Hegde, a resident of Jaddina Kodlu, Karkunje village in the taluk, reportedly killed his 78-year-old father. It is said that Sukesh used a chair to bludgeon his father to death at their residence.

Raviraj, an agriculturist by profession, was a former convenor of Saukoor Yakshagana troupe, and trustee of Saukoor Goddess Durgaparameshwari temple. It is gathered that frequent quarrels used to occur between the parents and the son, and Sukesh had beaten up his father more than once in the past. A number of cases about such incidents stand registered against Sukesh in Kundapur police station.

One such skirmish on Sunday night ended in the death of Raviraj Hegde. Perhaps, Sukesh was angered by the fact that his father had personally registered a complaint against the former about the theft of areca nut from home, the policemen revealed. Sueksh Hegde, who was trying to escape in a motor bike after committing the murder, was arrested by the policemen. A case of murder was registered against Sukesh in Kundapur police station.
