Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Mar 7: All the shops in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, dealing in branded readymade dresses will remain closed on Monday March 7.

The step has been taken in protest against the union governments move to levy 10 percent tax on branded readymade dresses, as per the budget proposals.

State Branded Readymade Dresses Association has given a call for state-wide bandh of all such shops. The shops and establishments dealing in readymade garments are likely to remain closed today. Managing director of R K Textiles Udupi, R K Nayak, said that his firm supports the bandh call, and that its outlets in Udupi, Kundapur, Karkala, and Manipal will remain closed today.
