Mangaluru: NSS unit of Milagres College celebrates World No Tobacco Day

Mangaluru, Jun 6: National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Milagres College, Mangaluru celebrated World No Tobacco Day on June 3. The programme was divided into three major portions being preparation of pamphlets by volunteers, oath taking, spreading awareness and signature campaign.

Priston Sequeira, NSS secretary administered the oath. All the students of the college at a time pledged not to smoke and not to encourage tobacco products.

The signature campaign was formally inaugurated by principal Fr Michael Santhumayor. The volunteers signed the pledge to not smoke and went around the college to spread awareness regarding the effects of smoking and that of tobacco. The shopkeepers signed a poster with a pledge of not to smoke and not to sell tobacco products.

As many as 70 NSS volunteers and 20 NCC cadets took part in the awareness program. 650 students pledged not to smoke.

Shravya N, NSS programme officer and Jobin Joseph, assistant programme officer were present. Rishal D'Souza compeered.
