Mangalore, Mar 6: Mangala Jyothi, Mangalore diocesan Biblical, catechetical and liturgical centre, organized felicitation of top scorers of SSLC diocesan catechism examination for the academic year 2010 – 11 at St Sebastian Platinum Jubilee Hall, Bendore, here on Sunday March 6.
St Aloysius College Professor Judy Pinto spoke on ‘Christian family’s sanctification of Jesus Christ’ here on Sunday morning.
Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza offered the Holy Mass along with Fr Herald Menezes, Fr Vincent Monteiro, Fr Lawrence Mendonca, Fr Vijay Victor Lobo, Fr Peter Noronha, Fr Boniface Pinto and other clergies at St Sebastian church, Bendore, here.
Bishop Dr Aloysius presided over the stage programme and honoured all the top scorers of SSLC diocesan catechism examination.
Speaking at the occasion, Bishop Dr Aloysius said that the catechism is essential in instilling the Christian values among the children. It would give a good start for them to excel in life, since it would enable them to be strong-willed to face challenges in adulthood, said Bishop Dr Aloysius.
Meanwhile, Bishop Dr Aloysius called on the Christian parents to pray daily as a family at homes.
Richard Alvares, graduate assistant of St Raymond High School, Vamanjoor was the chief guest of the occasion.
Richard Alvares said that the catechism lays strong foundation of Christian values that would give strength to overcome difficulties in the future and to lead peaceful co-existence.
Bendore parish priest Fr Peter Noronha was the guest of honour. He was felicitated on the occasion of completing fifty-years of priesthood and celebrating seventy-five-years recently.
Fr Peter also distributed Bibles to all the top scorers at the same occasion.
The students of St Gerosa High School sang the prayer hymn followed by welcome dance by the students of St Theresa High School.
Mangala Jyothi director Fr Boniface Pinto welcomed the gathering. Anil Monteiro proposed vote of thanks. Irene Sequeira compered the programme.
