Mangalore, Mar 6 (The Hindu): Mangalore City Corporation has offered to entrust the maintenance of 22 stretches on main roads and five parks in the city to any organisation, firm, industry or bank for three years.
It has mooted the concept of “own your road and own your park'' to implement its proposal.
Corporation Commissioner K.N. Vijayaprakash told presspersons on Saturday that the parties interested in maintaining them would be allowed to display signboards on both sides of the road free of cost. Such parties could display the signboards at a distance of 250 m on each side.
Mr. Vijayaprakash said the corporation required Rs. 5.50 crore to maintain the 22 stretches annually. As far as parks were concerned, the annual maintenance cost per acre of land was Rs. 2.91 lakh. He said the organisations interested in the proposal could approach the corporation for details. It had uploaded details on its website www.mangalorecity.gov.in.
Mr. Vijayaprakash said that such parties would be required to maintain the pavements and medians. They would have to take up the restoration work of roads, mark zebra crossings and mark bus bay parking.
The corporation would sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the organisations willing to maintain the roads and parks.
The roads listed for maintenance were: Hampankatta Junction to A.B. Shetty Circle; Clock Tower Circle to Rao and Rao Circle; A.B. Shetty Circle-Hamilton Circle-Rao and Rao Circle; Hampankatta Junction-Light House Hill Road-Ambedkar Circle; Hampankatta Junction-Balmatta-Ambedkar Circle; Ambedkar Circle to Karavali Circle in Bendoorwell; Karvali Circle to Mahaveera Circle; PVS Junction to Lady Hill Circle (M.G. Road); Lady Hill Circle to Urwa Stores; Urwa Stores to Kottara Chowki; Lady Hill Circle to Mannagudda; Karnataka Polytechnic Circle to Mary Hill; Mary Hill to Bondel Junction; Bondel Junction to Marakada; Hampankatta Junction to PVS Junction; Karavali Junction to Kankanady Junction; Bunts Hostel Circle to PVS Junction; Ballalbagh Junction to Mannagudda; Kuloor Junction to Kavoor Junction; KSRTC bus stand to Kuntikana; Lalbagh to Bejai Junction and Bejai to Basaveshwara Circle.
The parks offered for maintenance were Mahatma Gandhi Park at Gandhinagara; Children's Park near Deputy Commissioner's office; Mallikatta Park; Bharath Maidan Park near Jeppu Market and S.L. Mathais Park near Attavara.
