Mangalore, Mar 4: Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner (DC), Subodh Yadav, has warned public sector oil corporations not to violate the system which permits them to engage agencies to supply LPG cylinders to consumers. He told them that under no circumstances can they avail of the services of middlemen for the purpose of delivering cylinders to the consumers.
He was hearing a case in which unauthorized gas cylinders found in the possession of Adimaye Gas Agency were confiscated by food and civil supplies officials. After passing the order in the case, the DC noted that middlemen always work for profit, observing that they do not take precautionary measures against unexpected problems and dangers, with an eye on saving costs. He added that he will not allow the corporations to conduct transactions through the middlemen, as it might pave way for tragedies in later days. While asking oil corporations to take strict measures to function within the legal framework, he told them that unauthorized parties should not be allowed to get involved with LPG cylinder distribution.
He also said that the handling of LPG cylinders is governed by LPG Control Order 2000 and Gas Cylinder Rules 2004, and that such concerns should compulsorily have permission from the the department of explosives.
