Mangalore, March 2: A free medical camp was organized on 02-03-2011 to provide free medical services to all communities in and around Kannur, Mangalore.The camp was organized by B S W Dept of St Aloysius, in association with Spandana Trust, Deeni friends group and K M C hospital Mangalore.
The camp began at around 9.30am. Sudhir Shetty Cooperator of Kannur inaugurated the camp and expressed that such camps are very much essential in the area because many people are uneducated and below poverty line. Deeni friends group and the Social work students who work in the area have toiled hard towards the free medical camp. He expressed his happiness on the noble cause and appreciated the organizers. Satya Praksh who was heading the team of KMC doctor, Theertha K S Social worker of Spandana Trust, and Trustees of Badriya Jumma Masjid were present on the dais.
Theertha K S Social worker and Cordinator of Spandana Trust who spoke on the occasion appreciated the work of social work students Dawa and Raisa D’souza for their efforts and plans. She also added that these students have worked hard towards the camp from planning to its function.
One of the trustees of Badriya Jumma Masjid who spoke on the occasion and rejoiced for the work done by Deeni friends group and social work students. He added that youths are doing good work to the society which has benefited many localities. Deeni friends is an organization which has helped many girls and youngsters to complete their studies and has brought the dropout students back to their education. He congratulated the organizers for hosting such beneficial programme.
Satya Prakash, medical social worker of K M C Mangalore spoke about the service rendered by the doctors and the hospital and also about the facilities which will be provided to poor people. He stated that the cases will be diagnosed during the camp and severe cases will be referred to the hospitals for further treatments.
Cipla pharmaceutical company was the co-sponsor of the medical camp. They conducted a free Asthma Check up. Around seven cases of Asthma were diagnosed. KMC team of doctors rendered a superior service in consulting around 400 patients.
Around 400 people turned up for the camp; all were treated and some cases were referred to K M C Mangalore for further treatments. The services carried out during the camp were Eye Dept,Medical clinic, ENT, Skin clinic, Ortho, Paediatrician dept.
President of Deeni friends group Hameed and secretary Riyaz, Student social workers Dawa and Raisa D’sosuza, animators of Spandana trust Lizzie and Surekha were present on the occasion. Hameed Kannur compered the programme while Raisa D’Souza delivered the vote of thanks.
