Kasargod, Mar 2: Former vice-president of Kasargod zilla panchayat (ZP), P Geetha Krishnan, has been barred from contesting elections for six years. This order was passed by the state chief election commissioner, C Kamaluddin, after considering a complaint filed against her.

The state Election Commission had earlier received a complaint from P Narayanan Master, former chairman of the ZP standing committee on health, alleging that Geetha had violated the election code of conduct. Geetha Krishnan had fought the election as a candidate of Democratic Indira Congress (K) with the support of the Left Front. Later, her party was merged with the Congress. Thereafter, a no-confidence motion moved against the left front administration was adopted, and it lost power. The Left Front had questioned Krishnan’s action in siding with the Congress.
