Mangalore, Mar 2: The youth from displaced families, who underwent training programme in Karnataka Polytehnic (KPT) here, began an indefinite protest in front of the office of the district deputy commissioner here on Tuesday March 1. They are demanding for employment in various companies associated with Mangalore Special Economic Zone.
They said that many of them had abandoned their earlier employment and got training at KPT for three and half years, as they were lured by lucrative jobs in high paying companies, in exchange for losing lands for industrial development. It may be recalled that they had held discussions with the concerned and held protests. One among them had also attempted self-immolation after pouring kerosene on himself.
The youth are demanding employment in MRPL, OMPL, ISPRL etc., for all the students like the ones already absorbed by these companies. They demanded a written undertaking that all the students, upon completion of their training in KPT, will be given jobs in these companies. They said, they should be paid a compensation of Rs 30 lac each in case they are not given employment, for having ruined their future in the form of lost jobs and the wasted years at KPT.
Former MLA, Vijayakumar Shetty, Hindu Jagaran Vedike leader, Satyajit, zilla panchayat member, Ritesh Shetty, member, Yogish Kotian, Joachim D’Souza, Bala gram panchayat president, Sandesh Shetty, and several others visited the protestors.
