Mangalore: Union Minister Promises Special Tourism Economic Zone for City

Mangalore, Mar 2: Union tourism minister, Subodh Kant Sahay, has promised a delegation of Dakshina Kanada District Youth Congress Committee, that a special tourism economic zone would be set up in the city. The delegation had met him on Monday February 28.

“The city has already been identified as a potential place for tourism development. The issue of setting up of this special economic zone is under consideration. Once the new tourism policy comes into effect, this will become a reality,” the minister told the delegation.

The delegation requested the minister to offer concessions to tourism-related development activities, from Coastal Regulatory Zone rules. The minister reportedly evinced lot of interest in the proposed Aquamarine Park proposed to be located in Tannir Bavi.

The delegation placed demands like construction of a ropeway between Sultan Battery and Tannirbavi, development of beaches to international levels, construction of jetties at various rivers in the coast, etc., before the minister.

All India Congress Committee member, P V Mohan, Dakshina Kannada Youth Congress president, Arun Coelho, secretary, Jaleel Karopady, leaders, M G Hegde, Siddique Pare, Tejaswiraj and others were members of the delegation.
