Mangalore, Feb 28: A two- day national level seminar on 'Human Rights and Unorganized Labour in India', organized by the department of Political Science, St Aloysius College in collaboration with Human Rights Cell and Pathways Cell, was inaugurated at St Aloysius IT auditorium, here on Monday, February 28.

Justice M F Saldanha inaugurated the programme. Fr Swebert D’Silva, principal of the college was the president of the event. The keynote address was delivered by Prof Valerian Rodrigues, Centre for Political Studies, JNU, New Delhi. Dr Rose Veera D’Souza, head of the department of political science and president of human right cell, Dr Stany D’ Souza, vice-principal and the coordinator of Pathways cell and Supritha H G, secretary of human rights cell were present on the dais.

The seminar aims to assert the human rights of people and recognize the difference between unorganized labour and the rest. The unorganized labour seems to be deeply marked by a specific social identity for the disadvantaged group. The unorganized labour in mainly drawn from dalit, minority, adivasi groups and increasingly composed of women.
 
The seminar is not just the academic deliberation but would try to change the mindset of the people while treating the members of the disadvantaged groups.
