Belthangady, Feb 28: St Francis Xavier Church, Indubettu celebrated the silver jubilee of the newly constructed Church (1986- 2011), along with commemorating 75 years of the seed of faith sown here by the early missionaries, recently.
Fr Simon D’ Souza, parish priest, had organized and planned the whole celebration along with the Jubilee committee based on the theme ‘Be firm in the faith, and Be blessed’.
The celebration began with the religious procession led by the team of Badyar band, after being blessed by Fr James D’Souza the vicar vara of Belthangady Varado. Fr Lawrence D’Souza was the main celebrant of the jubilee mass, who in his preaching, recalled God’s divine plan and his protecting hands while implementing the mission and spread of the word of God.
After the mass, Fr Lawrence D’ Souza and all those priests who have rendered selfless service in this parish were felicitated.
Anitha read the progress report of the past 25 years. Fr James D’ Souza, the chief guest praised the unity and fellowship that was shared through the celebration and appreciated the wonderful works done by Fr Lawrence in spite of hardships and financial constraints in the initial days. Fr Lawrence was honoured by Fr Simon D’Souza.
The prizes were distributed for the winners of various competitions held on the occasion. Wilson D’Souza and his team emerged as the champions. The vice-presidents, secretaries and Gurkars who served in the past 25 years were also honoured. William D’ Souza proposed the vote of thanks. Francis Moras compeered.
In the evening, Church Kalasanga of St Francis Xavier Church Indubettu celebrated its second anniversary. A stage programme was organized for which Fr James D’Souza was the president. Fr Shaji Mathew, parish priest of Mariambika Church and Shaiesh Kumar Kurthodi, Jilla panchayat member among others were on the occasion.
A Tulu drama ‘Panpunakulu Panper’ written and directed by V N Kulal, Venur was enacted by Church Kalasanga members.
In all, 2,000 people were present for the programme.
