Puttur: Woman Commits Suicide, Dowry Death Alleged

Puttur, Feb 28: Kusuma alias Shweta (24), wife of Mohan, committed suicide at her home in Mareel in the town on Saturday February 26. Allegedly, she chose to end her life, unable to bear the harassment of her husband.

Kusuma had married Mohan from Kumbar on April 1, 2010. It is said that 12 sovereigns of gold ornaments were given to Mohan as dowry at the time of this marriage.

Sheshappa Gowda from Murulya in Sullia Taluk, father of Kusuma, has filed a complaint with the town police station here, stating that Mohan started pestering his wife for dowry, after staying quiet during the first six months after the marriage. He has said that his daughter committed suicide, unable to bear the physical and mental torture she suffered at the hands of her husband. A case against Mohan accordingly, stands registered in the police station.

    I do not know if it is practical but the best thing Sheshappa could do under the circumstances would be to collect all that the poor girl wore, all her dresses, all her remaining ornaments, all her belongings including sandles and present them to Mohan, her beloved husband and find out he is happy now.
