Sullia, Feb 28: In an accident that occurred near Elimale Harladka in the taluk on Sunday February 27, a person died and five others were injured. A government bus and a jeep got involved in a head on collision at Harladke bend in Elimale, giving rise to a serious accident.
Janardan Gowda (45), a shop owner from Angadimajalu in Markanja village, who was driving his jeep from Markanja to Kanakamajal, lost his life, while being carried from the accident spot to the hospital. His daughter, Tanushree (5), sister, Premalata (40), aunt, Chinnamma (60), elder brothers, Venkataramana Gowda (49), and Radhakrishna Gowda (50), who were also in the jeep, were admitted into a hospital with injuries. The passengers of the jeep were going to attend a Bhootakola scheduled to be held in Kanakamajal. The jeep was badly mangled due to the impact of the accident.
Venkataramana, Tanushree and Premalata, who sustained serious injuries, were taken to a hospital in Mangalore for advanced treatment. The KSRTC bus in question was moving to Madappady from Sullia.
The spot where the accident took place is very dangerous because of a steep, blind bend. The Sullia police have registered a case.
