Mangalore, Feb 28: On Sunday February 27, the ‘Pulse Polio’ programme, targetting to administer polio drops to all the children below five years of age, was carried out all over the district. Out of 1,70,721 children aged below five years in the district, the drops were administered to 1,41,979 children, which works out to 84.29 percent.

Taluk-wise percentage performance under the programme is as follows: Mangalore – 77.7, Bantwal – 77.51, Puttur – 79.44, Sullia – 92.09, and Beltangady – 92.72. This information was given by the district health and family welfare officer, Dr Srirangappa.

Udupi district registered 93 percent under the programme. 81,340 out of 87,198 children were covered under the programme on Sunday. The taluk-wise figures are, Udupi – 92, Kundapur – 94, and Karkala – 93.

The programme was inaugurated by minister, Dr V S Acharya, at the Children’s Hospital Udupi on Sunday morning, in the presence of zilla panchayat president, Katpady Shankar Poojary, chief executive officer, N Rajashekhar, and municipal commissioner, Gokuldas Nayak. A number of dignitaries and political leaders were present on the occasion.
