Udupi, Feb 27: Manipal Institute of Communication (MIC), as a part of International Women’s Day celebration, has organized a student outreach programme .The programme has already started and will culminate on March 8.
The Communication Management students of MIC for the first time are conducting student outreach programme at Kadiyali Kamala Bai High School, Manipal High School – Manipal P U College, Parkala High School and Manipal Degree College. Sessions for adolescent students were conducted at Madhava Pai Memorial College by Dr Chaitra Rao and.Latha Bhat.
The student outreach programme is focussing on the youth, especially targeting girl students between the age group of 12 and 21 in these schools. Resource persons like Latha Bhat, H P Nayak, Dr Lena Ashok, and Dr Chaitra Rao have immensely supported the programme. They will throw light on topics related to personality development, leadership skills, coping with examination stress, mental health and puberty, time management and personal health and hygiene on a weekly basis. H S Shubha is the faculty co-ordinator for the programme.
Speaking about the series of events, director of MIC, Prof Varadesh Hiregange said, “Discrimination and atrocities against women are still a reality, and it is important for us to work for complete elimination of such disturbing phenomenon. In this regard, our students of communication management deciding to organise the outreach programmes as a part of women’s day celebration is the need of the hour. I am very happy that our students are able to reach out to them”, he added.
Along with the inauguration, the first session was conducted at Kadiyali Kamala Bai High School by H P Nayak. It was a great success, and received huge participation of over 100 students from higher secondary school. The session was about coping with examination stress, goal setting, time management, concentration and retention of information.
The second session was conducted by Lena Ashok at Manipal High School – Manipal P U College for the seventh and eighth standard girl students. Over 50 students attended the session which was about Puberty and Women’s Health and Hygiene.
The third session was conducted for 100 students at Parkala High School. H P Nayak from India Now foundation and Veena Shenoy enlightened 10th standard students on how to cope with examination stress.

The series of events will conclude on March 8 at 5pm to commemorate the International Women’s Day with a celebration in Manipal Institute of Communication.
