Bangalore: Narayana Murthy Agrees to Inaugurate Vishwa Kannada Sammelan

Bangalore, Feb 26: Special officer of Vishwa Kannada Sammelan being held in Belgaum, I M Vittala Murty, clarified that Infosys Technologies chairman of board and chief mentor, N R Narayana Murthy, himself will inaugurate the proposed Sammelan, as originally planned. He was reacting to reports in the media that Murthy has not agreed to inaugurate the Sammelan.

“We have explained to Murthy the significance of holding this Sammelan. He has agreed to inaugurate the same. Even the Chief Minister held discussions with him on the subject. Murthy, who was in London, was not fully familiar with the importance of this Sammelan. Now there is no confusion about who will inaugurate the Sanmelan,” Vittala Murty said.

The officer said that a mega books exhibition is being organized at the venue, where the history of the medium of books will also be projected. Exhibition and sale of books brought out by almost all the publishers from Karnataka are being arranged. About 1,500 Kannadigas including about hundred from USA, 50 from Dubai, and Kannadigas settled in other cities in India, are expected to attend the Sammelan, he explained.

“The inaugural will be held at the district stadium, where the main dais is being built. Cultural programmes will be presented at Lingaraja College ground, RPD ground, Kumara Gandharva theatre, Lele ground, Gandhi Bhavan, Vadgabi government school ground, Gogate theatre, Lokamanya Tilak theatre, Chindodi Leela theatre etc,” he narrated.
