Mangalore, Feb 26: President of Nitte Education Trust, N Vinay Hegde, appreciated Indian Overseas Bank for the contributions it has been making towards the progress of social sectors and the financial advancement of the country as a whole, since the last 75 years. He was speaking after taking part in the platinum jubilee celebrations of the bank, organized in the city on Friday February 25. Hegde participated as chief guest at the programme.
“Chettiar family from Tamil Nadu, who can be compared to Pai Family from Manipal, had set up Indian Overseas Bank, by striking a balance between education, industry, and banking. The Bank’s current chairman and managing director, M Narendra, is a proud son of Dakshina Kannada district,” he said, and wished every success to the plans the bank has to celebrate its 75 years of service to the society.
Hegde recollected that he too had appeared for an interview of Indian Overseas Bank in 1962, but that he could not bag the job. He expressed happiness at the fact that a number of schemes of the bank have been providing employment to younger generation in large numbers.
T Satish U Pai, managing director of Manipal Media Network Ltd, who was chief guest, inaugurated the meeting programme, and handed over loan documents to the beneficiaries.
Sri Vidyaprasannateertha Swamii of Subrahmanya Mutt delivered benedictory address.
M Narendra, delivering introductory address, said that on the occasion of the platinum jubilee of the bank, various people-centric schemes are being implemented by the bank. He hoped that his bank will reach a target of Rs 2.5 lac crores by the end of March next. He said that the bank gives added importance to financial inclusion.
Bank’s executive directors, Nupur Mitra and A K Bansal, were at the dais. On this occasion, P Vinod Shenoy, Carmine Baas Lobo, and Muralidhar Nayak were felicitated. Student scholarship was handed over to Shweta Rao.
