Beltangady: Two Held for Rigging HPCL Oil Pipeline

Beltangady, Feb 26: The policemen of Punjalakatte police station in the taluk have arrested two persons, who were trying to pilfer petroleum products by drilling a hole in the oil pipeline of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd, used to pump petroleum products from Mangalore to Bangalore. The arrests were made on Friday February 25.

The arrested men have been identified as Navin (30) from Derebail Konchady in Mangalore, and Roshan alias Lawrence Lobo (23) from Kuloor. They were trying to drill a hole to the said pipeline in Samlara of Parenki village, when some villagers passed on information to the policemen. When the policemen reached the spot during the early hours on Friday, the accused were busy with their job.

In addition to arresting the duo, the policemen also took into possession equipments used for drilling the pipeline, and Maruti Swift car that they used to reach the spot. Sub-inspector of police, Madhava Koodlu, assistant sub-inspector, Giriappa, and other personnel were involved with this operation.

Such an effort had also been made in the past at the village, and the Beltngady policemen had foiled the attempt by raiding the spot and arresting the thieves.
