Mangalore, Feb 25: A gang of inter-state vehicle lifters have been nabbed by the Bantwal Police under the guidance of circle inspector Nanjunde Gowda on Friday February 25.
Four persons were held. About 14 four-wheelers and 22 two-wheelers worth Rs 1 Crore were seized so far. Those seized vehicle include Maruthi car, Alto, Omni, Innova, Qualis and Tipper Lorry. CPI of Bantwal is investigating.
Those held by the police are identified as Sayyad alias Niyaz alias Irfan, a resident of Shimoga, Moideen alias Kunhi, a resident of Kooduraste in Kerala, Ashraf, a resident of Puttur and Haneef alias Eli Haneef, a resident of Jokatte.
It is suspected that their team consists of more than 10 members. They were selling these vehicles to Mangalore, Bangalore, Hasan, Mysore, Hosadurga, Kerala.
There were many vehicle missing cases reported in Melkar, Bantwal and B C Road areas in the recent past. It is said that they were handing over the vehicles to Sayyad to sell them. There are already 25 cases for different reasons on Sayyad.
Locals were surprised to see the huge number of seized vehicles parked near Bantwal police station.
