Puttur: Chain Snatcher Nabbed, Ornaments Recovered

Puttur, Feb 25: A chain snatcher, who allegedly was involved with a number of chain snatching cases in the region, was arrested by the policemen on Wednesday February 23. He has been identified as Balakrishna Moolya (29), a resident of Kavalamudoor village in Bantwal taluk.

When the rural police station circle inspector, B K Manjaiah, who was checking vehicles at Karvelu of Nekkilady village on Wednesday evening, a motor bike rider sped away, without stopping, even after signalling him to halt. He was then chased in the department’s vehicle. On his arrest, the policemen realized they had found the man they had been hunting for, relating to several chain snatching cases.

Balakrishna reportedly confessed to his involvement with chain snatching cases in Kadaba, Punjalakatte, Beltangady etc. In Uppinangady police station too, a case was registered about a person, who tried to snatch a chain, and then escaped in a Motor Bike in Perne village. The man has been identified as Balakrishna.

Since the last five months, the accused used to target lonely women. The policemen recovered gold ornaments worth Rs 1.43 lac from him. The motor bike used for these thefts has also been confiscated. On producing him in a court here on Thursday, the accused was remanded to 15 days judicial custody.
