Washington, Feb 25 (IANS/EFE) Toyota will recall 2.17 million vehicles in the US to examine accelerator problems.
Toyota will make adjustments to prevent the accelerators from becoming entrapped in floor mats or becoming jammed in the carpeting around them, thus causing involuntary acceleration.
The Japanese auto giant said the recall affects the following vehicles - Lexus GS, RX and LX and the Toyota Highlander, 4Runner and RAV4.
In 769,000 vehicles, Toyota will replace the pad and the carpet fasteners.
Since January 2009, Toyota has recalled about 15 million vehicles in the US, of which about half - seven million - have needed modifications to prevent the carpet from interfering with the accelerator pedal.
