Mangalore, Feb 24: Justice Michael F Saldanha with the help of the Christian community and findings has contradicted the report given by the Justice Somashhekhara in relation with the Church attacks, recently.
Justice Saldanha has presented the report to unearth the truth and bring out the point of view of the community and public interest. In his 308 pages report, prepared for the People’s Union for Civil Liberties and the Transparency International India, has held CM B S Yeddyurappa and home minister R Ashok responsible for allowing the attacks in the state.
Justice Saldanha alleged the state government of its hidden agenda in promoting violence against the minority community. He has further alleged that all the attacks and incidents which took place were instigated and pre-planned. They were state sponsored and not only supported by the state but were covered up for by the state.
The state police have crossed all the limits in ransacking the church, sacred objects and religious symbols like the crucifix. The procurement of the rock pebbles, the arming of the saffron militants with lathis and other deadly weapons and use of these persons against members of the minority community was totally unjustified and criminal.
The expired teargas, the police violence inside the primary school at Kulshekar on 607 young children and a staff of over 35 women teachers and nuns, the assaulting the celebrant priest at Pemannur Church, false arrest of many, inflicted with custodial violence and refusal to afford medical aid to the injured persons which have resulted in permanent damage and disability such as loss of eyesight, damage to the kidneys among others have been ignored and overlooked by the report of Justice Somashekhara report. He also said that Somashekhara was a paid employee by the government and he would want to bring the results in favour of the Government and not the minority community.
He is not in favour of handing over the case to CBI because it is already overburdened with 2G scam, CWG scam and Adarsh scam. If the case is handed over to CBI, it would end up in the cold storage, he added.
The report of Justice Saldanha would be eventually submitted to the C M Yeddyurappa and home minister R Ashok.
Alwyn Colaco, Suresh Bhat, Walter Maben and P B D'Sa were present during the press conference.
