Mangalore, Feb 24: Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner, Subodh Yadav, said that 104 unauthorized religious structures stand cleared in the district so far, in tune with the Supreme Court order. He was speaking after presiding over a district level meeting of the officials held at his office on Wednesday February 23.
He said that these operations were conducted in tune with the decisions taken at four such meetings held earlier.
“Till now, reports about 78 such cases were submitted. In 30 cases, the places were vacated by the officials. 26 more structures are still to be cleared. In the case of 15 centres, recommendations for regularizing them have been sent, as the general public are not facing problems because of them,” he explained.
The deputy commissioner instructed the concerned sub-divisional officers and PWD officials to clear the remaining unauthorized religious structures before February 28. He also advised the officials to hold taluk level meetings with PWD and other officials before attending the district level meetings, and place items there only for final approval.
The deputy commissioner asked revenue officials to submit a comprehensive report about the encroachment of government land by individuals within eight days. He also asked them to prepare a top-ten list of such cases, wherever the information is already available, and to take steps to take back this land on priority.
Additional deputy commissioner, Prabhakar Sharma, and officials of various departments were present.
