Beltangady: Charmadi Ghat Road Remains Blocked for Seven Hours

Daijiworld Media Network – Beltangady (SP)

Beltangady, Feb 23: After a truck tripped and fell across the Charmadi Ghat road at the tenth bend of the road at around 3 am on Tuesday February 22, the traffic on the road stood disrupted till 10 am. While minor vehicles could somehow negotiate a small opening and pass to the other side, heavy vehicles waited for long before the path was cleared.

The truck in question was carrying card boards from Chikmagalur. The Ghat road is unfit for the use of heavy vehicles, as it is narrow, and dotted with numerous pot holes. A team led by Charmadi Hasanabba rushed to the spot immediately after the information was received. Hasanabba, after the clearance operation, felt that the government, instead of spending money on lavish functions, should divert it for the repair of roads like this.

Mr Harish Suvarna, Belthangady youare right the mentioned road is in pathetic situation. It was handed over to NHAI recently and it will take some time to convert state H.way to National.I was told that after handing over to NH, the fund for repair or maint would not be made available because the whole road structure will re loaded as per NH norms.Bantawal-Belthangay-Mudgere road will be soon converted in to NH after getting required lands.FYI Karakal-Moodbidri-Mangalore NH still not cleared from SH as it was converted as NH 7-8 years before.Charmadi Ghat road one of the DURGAMA road always causing problem especially in Mansoon season need immediate attention.

It is really wondering why Government is not taking keen on Buntwal to Belthangadi NH-234 stretch?. Is it becoz Belthangadi and Buntwal MLAs are from opposition party?, or whether Government has no funds as they are often investing (!!!) funds to please high priests of various temples and involved in charity work rather than infrastructure development works ?

Charmady is often known to repeat such accidents bacause of its age old narrow roads, and thus increasing the number of acciedents particularly in rainy season. This stretch being the main connectiong route to several districts in Karnataka for the Panambur port and Mangalore Airport, never saw widening work for the past half a century!!!. Politicians lecturing on economy why can't see the real benefit out of spending on this stretch and increase the mobility and thus support the economy of the state?
