Karkala: Man Strangulates Wife, Throws Body into Well

Daijiworld Media Network – Karkala (SP)

Karkala, Feb 17: The policemen have now found that the death of Sulochana Naika (22) from Gadibidi Kallu near Hebri Chara here a week back, was in fact, not suicide as they had recorded it to be. Naika, a mentally unstable person, was killed by her husband before throwing her body into the well, the policemen now claim.

On the basis of a complaint filed by the lady’s mother, the Hebri policemen had registered a case of suicide. After the post mortem report pinpointed the cause of death to strangulation, the local circle inspector of police, Puttaswamy Gowda, and Hebri station house officer, Santosh Shetty, summoned Suguna, sister of Sulochana, to the station and questioned her on Wednesday February 16. Suguna reportedly told the policemen that after a fight, Amit Naika, her brother-in-law, had murdered his wife and then dropped the body into a well, in her presence. He had also threatened to kill her if she spilled the beans, Suguna told the policemen.

On the basis of the information, the policemen launched a manhunt for Amit Naika, a labourer, who had gone missing, and arrested him on Wednesday.  He was produced in the local court.
