Bangalore: KSCA President, Anil Kumble’s Election Challenged

Daijiworld Media Network – Bangalore (SP)

Bangalore, Feb 16: A civil suit was filed by a member of Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), Ramamurty, in a court here on Tuesday February 16, challenging the election of Anil Kumble as the KSCA president. The petitioner has said that Kumble had not yet technically become a member of KSCA when he got elected as its president.

Advocate for the petitioner, Bipin Hegde, claimed that as per the KSCA rules, a person, to be eligible to become a member of the body, should have completed a minimum of two years after retiring from first class cricket. While noting that an ammendment had recently been made to this rule, extending concessions to Ranji Trophy and international players, he said that this modification has not yet been approved by the registrar of societies. The petitioner has alleged that this ammendment had been brought hurriedly with an intention of enabling Kumble to rise to the post, and that the registrar of societies has refused to approve the same. His argument is that the ammendment remains just a proposal, till it is approved by the registrar.

KSCA lawyers, on whom the notices were serviced, requested for time to file objections to the petition. The case stands adjourned to March 3. No orders were issued on the plea of the petitioner to issue stay order to the continuance of Kumble as KSCA president, and also to unseat him from the post.
