Davangere, Apr 29: Karnataka will procure an additional 2 lakh tonnes of ragi this year after obtaining the approval from the Union Government, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said.
Speaking to media persons at Jagaluru in Davangere district on Friday, April 29 he said the 2 lakh tonnes will be in addition to the 1.4 lakh tonnes of ragi being procured. This will help the ragi growers, he said.
He promised to discuss with the Union Food Minister to get his approval for the procurement of additional 2 lakh tonnes of ragi in view of the demand from ragi growers from different places.
The Chief Minister asserted that Kannada will be prime language in Karnataka and no other language can replace it.
The reorganisation of States on linguistic lines makes it imperative that Kannada will and shall always get primacy in Karnataka, he declared.
Asked about the alleged irregularities in the exams for the recruitment of police sub inspectors and also in the case of lecturers, Bommai said the government will probe all irregularities and the guilty will be brought to book.
He later launched commencement of several developmental works in Jagaluru taluk with total expenditure of Rs 1,400 crore.
