Mangalore, Feb 10: City corporation commissioner, Dr Vijayaprakash, said that census has been undertaken within the limits of the city corporation here, on a war footing. “Eleven in-charge officers, and a thousand enumerators have been assigned with this task,” he revealed.
He was speaking to reporters after census enumerator, Shashikant, and census staff, Umesh Acharya, visited the home of city mayor, Rajani Dugganna, at her residence, ‘Durga Nivas’ in Munchoor, Suratkal near here, under his guidance. The city commissioner is the census officer for this drive.
“The census will be conducted between February 9 and 28. The work of revision will be conducted from March 1 to 5,” he said, seeking full cooperation of the citizens towards the success of this census.
He said that talks are on with the port trust officials about the proposal to conduct census in the ships docked at the local port on February 28. He said that while conducting this census, the captains of the ships would be considered as the heads of the respective families.
The mayor too requested for people’s cooperation for the census. Various officials were present on the occasion. It was also decided to draw assistance from the concerned in collecting details of labourers who have migrated from north India and camping near Mukka.
In Moodbidri, census work was initiated from the house of MLA, K Abhayachandra Jain. Jain, who provided details of his family members and signed the schedule, requested the people to help the officials in locating houses, and recording correct details.
