Mangaluru, Apr 22: A teenaged boy, who was travelling alone in train for the first time, went out of communication with his parents. The distraught parents immediately tweeted by tagging Railway department. Within 34 minutes of the tweet, the boy called home. The commitment shown by railways is highly appreciated on social media.
Shantanu (16), son of Kishan Rao, who is working as a manager in an automobile company in the city here, boarded the train from Mangaluru to Kottayam at 5 am of April 19 in order to go to his grandfather’s house. His parents had given him a mobile phone as he was travelling alone. His relatives were to receive him at Kottayam railway station.

Parashuram Express train, in which the boy travelled, had to reach Piravam railway station between Ernakulam and Kottayam at 2.30 pm. When Shantanu’s parents called him at 10 am his phone was switched off. This continued for quite some time. Father Kishan Rao, who was tense as his son is not responding to the phone calls, tweeted railway minister Ashwini Vaishnav with the train ticket number of his son. The officers of railway ministry immediately relayed the matter to the railway police. The concerned railway police ensured the safety of the boy in the said train and asked him to call his father.
The boy immediately called his father and said that he is okay and was sleeping and did not know how his phone went into switched off mode. All the process of tracing the boy happened within 34 minutes. His father expressed gratitude to Railway minister, ministry and railway police for their quick response.
