Udupi, Apr 22: Aliya Assadi and Resham returned from the PU examination centre without attending the exams on Friday April 22. The second PU examinations began in the state on Saturday.
The students had urged the officials to allow them to write the exams wearing hijab.
The principal of the college had earlier informed on Thursday that the Muslim girl students who protested against Hijab and have not collected their hall tickets for the examination, can do so till the last moment. Two girl students whose exam was on Friday, who were among the six, who protested against prohibition of Hijab had still not collected their hall tickets till Thursday.
It may be recalled, six girl students of a college protested against the college authorities for denying them entry into the classroom wearing Hijab.
The demand by a section of girls in the Udupi pre-university college to wear Hijab inside their classrooms erupted into a major row after some Hindu students turned up in saffron shawls, with the issue spreading to other parts of the state, even as the government insisted on a uniform norm. The matter then went to court.
Later, the Karnataka high court pronounced its verdict on the hijab row stating wearing hijab is not an essential religious practice.
