Apr 19: Governor of Goa P S Sreedharan Pillai said the recruitment to various posts by the Goa Public Service Commission (GPSC) should be strictly done on merit and be free from political interference.

Expecting transparency in the process of Public Service Commission (PSC) recruitment, the Governor said, “Money should not be made criteria while recruiting. Money may come and go.”

“The sole intention behind recruiting through PSC was to make it possible for the aspirants and ordinary citizens to get into the government service without any bias and injustice.” the Governor said and added, “Although the selected government has its own vital role to play in State affairs, politicians, may it be of ruling party or opposition, should not interfere in the recruitment process of GPSC.” “We are all servants of the people and we have to work hard to give justice to the people” Pillai said.

The Governor further said that Goa is at the apex as far as financial position index is concerned He urged the government to remain committed to the people. “By ‘people’ it refers to people from entire State and not from any particular area.”

Urging the government to deliver justice to the people, he said, “Where will those aspirants having no political affiliation go if those centralised to only one section of the State are considered?” asked the Governor.

Congratulating GPSC chairman Jose Manuel Noronha on being appointed as Chairman of GPSC, the Governor said that consciousness should be given the final authority to take the decisions.

Noronha said that the newly-inaugurated GPSC floor will be used for conducting GPSC exams and for organising various staff seminars.

“With construction of GPSC building being fully complete, the wholly-equipped Commission is now prepared to handle any situation, especially the process of recruitment and others” he said.
